1 Saturday required: July 26 – camp clean-up day

Dates off: July 3-5, 2025

Lifeguard training - May 17-18, 2025* for applicants that qualify.

POSITION SUMMARY

General Counselors work with their assigned unit to provide hands-on, interactive activities such as crafting, science experiments, and theme-based activities. While at camp, our General Counselors will be role models for our campers – showing enthusiasm, kindness, and creativity. Along with another counselor, you will facilitate archery sessions, create one-of-a-kind tie dye, rock a dance party, and roast tasty s’mores! You can expect to spend your summer days hiking camp, outside playing games on the field, and trying something new each day.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

• No prior Girl Scout experience required to apply.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• HS Diploma or equivalent required (advanced education or college preferred).
• Successful reference check, drug screen and background check.
• Previous experience working in an overnight camp environment preferred.
• Ability to supervise and interact positively with girls in grades K-12.
• Ability to facilitate and instruct camp activities as requested by the Lead Counselor or other administrative staff.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to make independent decisions, interact effectively with staff and volunteers, and work well with children.
• Upon hire, must hold personal membership in the Girl Scout organization and subscribe to the tenets of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
• Ability to drive preferred but is not required. Drivers must have personal transportation and the ability to drive. Must possess a valid driver’s license, maintain personal auto insurance which meets the council insurance company’s requirement for coverage.

• Assists in the smooth functioning of summer camp by performing other duties as assigned.

• Under the guidance of the Lead Counselor, assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in activities throughout camp sessions, adhering to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and safety standards.
• Serve as a role model to guide campers in appropriate behaviors, language, attitudes, and activities that will help girls develop individual responsibility.
• Assist in communication, conflict resolution, and problem solving within the unit.
• Work with campers through relationship development, respect for diversity, and empowerment of youth.
• Learn and implement the crisis management plan, including emergency procedures. Be aware of the ongoing medical needs of the campers.
• Ensure program site and supplies are properly maintained. Assist with cleaning, sanitation, and care of supplies and equipment.
• Incumbent will primarily sleep in a girl unit (sometimes in a separate counselor cabin, and sometimes in an attached but separate room) and is expected to help with nighttime supervision and morning routines.

ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Activities occur both inside and outside with employee subject to both environmental conditions to include fluctuating weather conditions (hot, cold, windy, etc.) as well as outdoor exposure to variety of vegetation and animals.
• Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, work with fingers, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions.
• Ability to perform light work exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS

Summer seasonal employment is a unique experience and falls under the seasonal exemption standard categorized as “seasonal amusement or recreational establishment” by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Department of Labor (DOL). This exempts the position from federal minimum and overtime wage requirements as we compensate a daily rate plus. The potential weekly earnings for this position is between $300 - $325 depending on experience, availability, scheduling, and any related certifications. Seasonal staff are eligible for a performance based bonus that will be paid after the first 4 weeks of summer camp and at the end of summer camp.  Seasonal staff may qualify for a performance-based bonus and a stay-on bonus. Eligibility for each bonus is outlined below:

• Performance Bonus – is paid to staff who meet or exceed weekly key metrics. The bonus is paid out mid- summer and at the end of camp in the final pay. 
• Stay-on Bonus - paid to staff who work all weeks committed through the end of camp. The bonus is paid out at the end of camp in the final pay. 

This is a seasonal position only with no eligibility for benefits.
