Role description:

Arcadis is looking to add Legal Counsel to its growing in-house legal team. Provide legal support to Arcadis’ Architecture and Urbanism Division in the areas of public and private sector architecture, design, planning, consulting, and contracts. The main responsibilities of this role include providing high-level and actionable legal advice in a timely manner across a broad range of issues that arise in the architecture, design, planning, consulting, and construction industry, primarily in the United States, with some international project work. This role requires strong written and verbal communication skills, and experience in contract review, risk mitigation, and claim management.

This role can be in any US Arcadis office.

Role accountabilities:

  • Providing advice and support at all stages during the review, negotiation, and performance of architecture, planning, and consulting contracts from initiation to closure.
  • Providing support to project teams during project execution to mitigate risk and claims exposure and management
  • Proactively contributing to and providing best practices in areas of responsibility (e.g., contract management leadership, risk identification and mitigation, recognizing matters requiring elevated legal review) to the Arcadis business.
  • Providing sound and insightful advice to the business on a variety of matters such as contract negotiation, risks associated with areas of responsibility, and providing training to relevant personnel on same.
  • Promoting and upskilling relevant Arcadis personnel in identification and mitigation of legal and commercial risks in areas of responsibility.
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities requiring general legal advice as required from time to time by the business including giving presentations, preparing briefing notes, and conducting research.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A Juris Doctor or its equivalent and a member in good standing of a Bar of a U.S. State, Territory, or the District of Columbia.
  • U.S. Citizen residing within the United States
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated work experience in commercial contracts review, drafting, support, and negotiation (international exposure an advantage), ideally in both a reputable law firm and/or as an in-house lawyer.
  • Demonstrated work experience in claims and risk management and mitigation.
  • Contract and performance/risk management experience in all general aspects of architecture, engineering, planning, and design consulting; experience in privacy and data security an advantage; construction industry experience also valued.
  • Knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local public contracting laws preferred, but not required (where no knowledge is present, ability to perform targeted legal research)
