We are looking for a pragmatic and ambitious Legal Counsel with a "can-do" attitude. You bring a sense of humor and ability to handle conflicts of interest under pressure to our SNL Legal team.

Stolt-Nielsen Limited (SNL), is the specialist storage and transportation provider for bulk liquids: Chemicals, clean petroleum, gases, vegetable oils, biofuels and oleochemicals. We also focus on opportunities in aquaculture & LNG.

What you will be doing

He or She will be responsible for SNL business streams (focus on terminals, tank containers and tankers) for day-to-day commercial advice and transactional support, as well as responsibility for analysis/assessment of disputes and resolution thereof including preparation of cases (litigation and arbitration) and coordinating with and monitoring outside legal counsel in relevant jurisdictions (as appropriate). Β The position will also support corporate projects on the SNL parent level. In this position you will report directly to our Deputy General Counsel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to and drive completion of discrete projects such as merger and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, inter-company agreements, real estate and lease matters, corporate risk, and compliance assessments.
  • Draft, negotiate, and implement various transactional documents; such as sales, procurement, purchase and sale, development and agency agreements.
  • Dispute analysis and resolution, including preparing and coordination with and monitoring external legal counsel, as appropriate.
  • Actively advise business management in the decision making process indicating legal options and constraints.
  • Comply with all relevant laws, regulations, conventions, etc. applicable to SNL worldwide operations, including local variations (particularly US).

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from accredited school with U.S. legal academic background/training.Β 
  • 6 years relevant experience as an in-house lawyer (preferred) or private practice lawyer with a transactional practice with some with international trade, logistics, or maritime experience.
  • Has a commercial focus and are keen to deliver quality.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn about the company and industry.
