Description

Group Legal is responsible for providing legal advice to all business areas on a global basis and consists of 40 lawyers and support staff in a distributed team located in Oslo, Houston, Mexico City, Hamburg, London, Glasgow, Shanghai, Singapore, and Dubai. The Group Legal function is led by the Group Legal Director at the DNV Group headquarters in Norway and reports to the Group CFO.

ย The Group Legal Region Americas Team:

We are a dynamic team of legal professionals dedicated to adding value and acting as business enablers to all DNV business areas (covering Maritime, Energy Systems, Business Assurance, Supply Chain & Product Assurance, and Digital Solutions) as well as support functions for DNV's operations in the Americas.ย As a member of the Group Legal Americas team, your primary focus will be supporting operations in the U.S. and the Americas, with opportunities to engage with the DNV organization globally.ย

As a generalist supporting across all DNV business areas, you will be expected to be flexible and able to adaptย to support the internal stakeholders with a wide range of tasks including contract negotiation, business strategy and legal risk mitigation, training, regulatory review and advice, and claims handling.ย

Qualifications

What is required:

  • JD from ABA-Approved U.S. law school, or equivalent degree from equivalent non-U.S. Law School
  • 5-10 years of legal experience; some in-house experience preferredย 
  • Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar, preferably Texas
  • Relevant working experience should include experience in claims handling/litigation management, contract drafting and negotiation, and legal project managementย 
  • Strong understanding of legal risk management and mitigation related to advisory and assurance services required; experience in ESG & sustainability services and digital services/solutions preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders
  • Experience working with international clients preferred
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required, both domestic and international
  • Some domestic and international travel is expected
  • Strong written and verbal English skills
  • Professional proficiency in Spanish strongly preferred

Expectations:

  • Handle a variety of legal matters and translate complex legal concepts into actionable business advice, across DNVโ€™s business areas.
  • Offer precise, relevant, and timely counsel on legal issues affecting the current service portfolio, new service development, and reporting requirements.
  • Draft, review and negotiate complex commercial contracts with customers, vendors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Prepare and deliver legal trainings and internal presentations.
  • Manage cross-functional projects with legal implications.
  • Perform effectively under pressure with diligence, organization, and minimal supervision.
  • Collaborate well with others and build positive working relationships.
  • Identify legal issues and help implement solutions that consider non-legal variables, such as reputational risk, communications, government relations, tax, insurance, and finance.
  • Exhibit strong analytical skills and strategic thinking.
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity.
