The Office of the General Counsel of the Service Employees International Union, Local 32BJ is hiring an Associate General Counsel.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

As an Associate General Counsel, you will be expected to handle a wide range of matters relating to new organizing, the advancement of workers’ rights, legislative advocacy, and the representation of Union members.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Represent the Union in federal and state court, and before the National Labor Relations Board and other administrative agencies.
• Draft and lobby on legislation, regulations and policies.
• Present cases to arbitrators and assist with contract negotiations.
• Advise Union officers and staff on internal Union administration, traditional labor law, and some benefit fund matters.
• Provide supervision to junior attorneys with respect to litigation.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Applicants should have at least 7 years of relevant experience, excellent research and writing skills, and a demonstrated commitment to workers’ rights.

Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a full-time position based in New York City.

This position requires travel to other locations and events, including worksites and rallies, and some out-of-state travel.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This position has a salary range of approximately $137,000 to $185,000, depending on years of experience, and comes with excellent benefits, including employer-paid health, dental and vision plans for full-time employees and their qualified dependents, a defined benefit pension plan, and generous paid time off.
