Job Summary
The Assistant General Counsel will play a critical role in supporting the legal and business operations of a growing multi-family apartment company. This position involves providing strategic legal counsel on a wide range of matters, including real estate transactions, leasing, property management, litigation, fund management, and corporate governance. The Assistant General Counsel will work closely with business partners, internal teams, and external counsel to ensure legal compliance, mitigate risk, and facilitate business objectives. The role requires a deep understanding of real estate law, particularly in multi-family housing, as well as the ability to advise on complex legal issues while ensuring timely and practical solutions. This role will report to the General Counsel of The Fischer Group.

These skills will be used to:
- Drafts, reviews, and negotiates a variety of agreements including real estate purchase and sale agreements, easements, development and joint venture agreements, fund agreements, side agreements, vendor agreements, and leases for business partners.
- Contributes to the development of litigation strategies and plays an active role in litigation and claims management.
- Provides guidance on property management practices, ensuring adherence to local regulations and compliance standards.
- Partners with outside counsel to prepare, negotiate, and manage private equity fund agreements.
- Interact with fund investors.
- Conducts in-depth legal research on statutory interpretation, case law, and evolving legal concepts.
- Manages legal risks by developing and enforcing company policies and procedures in collaboration with the legal department.
- Collaborates with land acquisition professionals to secure sites and manage the sale of developed or leased properties.
- Mentors and provides training to paralegals, fostering a strong, capable legal team.
Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate from a reputable, accredited law school.
- Active member in good standing with a State Bar.
- At least ten (10) years of commercial real estate experience, with a minimum of four (4) to five (5) years specializing in multi-family housing transactions.
- In-depth knowledge of real estate law, title and survey issues, business law, and landlord-tenant matters.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous in-house or experience with a large/medium-sized law firm.
- Proficient in drafting and negotiating a variety of documents including purchase and sale agreements, corporate documents, joint venture agreements, development agreements and leases.
- Familiarity with private equity transactions.
- Proven experience in managing litigation.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage clients and stakeholders.
Physical demands and work environment:
- Ability to effectively communicate and engage with employees and the public using sensory skills, including phone, computer, and in-person interactions.
- Proficient in using office equipment, including computers, calculators, copiers, and fax machines.
- Capable of sitting for extended periods, with occasional reaching and standing.
- Comfortable working in a typical office environment.
- Occasional travel required.
