We are looking for counseling faculty with enthusiastic interest in counseling students, including students from underrepresented backgrounds, and improvement through ongoing critical thinking about student learning outcomes in courses and programs. The ideal Ohlone counseling faculty member will have strong leadership skills and an interest in active participation in college-wide activities. Excellent communication skills with students, staff, faculty and counseling peers are essential. We are looking for counseling faculty who are flexible in their work and adaptable to change. Position DescriptionUnder the general supervision of the Administrator, in collaboration with the Dean of Counseling and Special Programs, the Counselor’s responsibilities include individual and group counseling; instruction of personal development courses; plan educational activities designed to enhance personal/social/emotional well-being of students; evaluation of assessments; orientation of new students; assignment to support a student population, including, but not limited to AANHPI, Puente, UMOJA, Veterans, Career Technical Education, and formerly incarcerated; collaboration and liaison to Department of Rehabilitation counselors; recruitment and liaison to local high schools and resource teachers; collaboration with various units on campus such as general counseling, Student Health Center, and Tutoring Center to ensure efficiency of services provided to students and implementation of innovative approaches to better serve students. This position may require assignments in the evenings and/or weekends and/or at off campus locations including online counseling.
Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling;
OR
the equivalent;
AND
Commitment to community college goals/objectives of being an equity-based and anti-racist institution, and providing quality programs and services for culturally, socio-economically, ethnically, and academically diverse students and students with disabilities; personal qualities to work effectively and with sensitivity in a multicultural environment; awareness of and commitment to the needs of non-traditional and/or re-entry students with diverse abilities and interests;
AND
Must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.
(NOTE: A bachelor’s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)
