ispace technologies U.S. is a looking for a highly motivated Commercial Counsel to play a pivotal role on its growing Legal Team. The successful candidate will be capable of taking initiative and enabling a quickly scaling business in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should possess a proven record of effectively communicating and managing relationships across a geographically distributed organization to deliver results. This role will be based out of our Denver, Colorado location but will travel domestically and internationally as the need arises.


Key Responsibilities

    • Provide comprehensive legal counsel and support on a broad range of corporate and contracting matters, including:
    • Contracts (USG, commercial, licensing, vendor, employment, international, etc.)
    • Corporate governance (USG regulations, cybersecurity, etc.)
    • Regulatory compliance (with a focus on regulations applicable to commercial space)
    • Intellectual property (software and technology licensing, USG data rights, etc.)
    • Review and draft a broad range of contracts, regulatory filings, and other legal documents.
    • Handle prime contract and subcontract negotiations, pre-award support (e.g., RFP reviews), and post-award counseling (e.g., debriefings and protest assessments).
    • Assist with establishing scalable processes, training programs, and a robust program focused on identifying, addressing, and monitoring compliance obligations and managing risks.
    • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to ensure adherence to all applicable laws and regulations.
    • Manage external legal counsel and third-party providers to ensure efficient and cost-effective support.
    • Stay up to date on evolving legal developments within the space industry and proactively inform stakeholders.
    • Keep senior leadership informed of regulatory changes that impact the company, proactively providing recommendations to address potential risks.
    • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and compliance across the company.
    • Foster a culture of integrity and legal compliance throughout the organization.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

    • Minimum 5 years of experience as a lawyer (mix of firm and in house experience preferred)
    • JD from an ABA-accredited law school.
    • Ability to translate business objectives into clear and concise legal language.
    • Established track record of enabling business to achieve its goals.
    • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while prioritizing business critical projects; schedule may vary.
    • Outstanding communication skills.
    • Highly detail oriented.
    • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Desired Qualifications

    • Experience in aerospace or other high-tech sector.
    • Experience working with space-related agreements (satellite, hosted payload, launch).
    • Understanding of regulatory environment for commercial space transactions (FCC, NASA, NOAA).
    • Working knowledge of international export rules, including EAR and ITAR.
    • Background or degree in engineering.
    • Experience collaborating in an international organization.
    • Experience in a high technology startup.
    • Patience.
    • Sense of humor.

$135,000 - $175,000 a year
